"Keeping Up with the Kardashians" is more fun than ever as the show returns for a second season. Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney are back in the limelight, focusing on their individual careers, while mom Kris tries to keep the family together and manage her daughters' professional lives. Will the family let fame go to Kim's head? Is stepdad Bruce Jenner ready for a fabulous makeover? How will younger brother Rob be able to juggle a new gal and moneymaking modeling gigs? WHAT WE THOUGHT
"Keeping Up With the Kardashians" follows the family's everyday lifestyle by documenting everything from heated conflicts to exciting activities, including photo ops, trips to Las Vegas or Mexico, celebrations, and TV or radio appearances. Whether it shows the Kardashians helping out a homeless guy or trying to stop someone from selling a controversial photograph to a tabloid, the series focuses on what life is like in high society and how the clan deals with it on a daily basis. While Kris, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney have the tendency to engage in all sorts of extravagant adventures, Bruce is usually the one left behind to manage the household and watch over youngsters Kendall and Kylie. Rob still goes to college and spends a good portion of his time studying, so we don't get to see him onscreen that often.
If I only had a few words to describe the show, I would go ahead and call it brainless but generally entertaining reality TV—and that's exactly what it is. Those of you who like shows that follow the lifestyles of the rich and famous will enjoy "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" to the fullest. Sure, most of what you see here is rather superficial and often incredibly dumb and maybe immature, but at times it's also quite funny. I freely admit I occasionally enjoy sitting back and watching television without having to use my brain. This is the right show for those moments, just don't look for anything inspirational or really intelligent. My personal favorite in the clan is Bruce, primarily because he's the only one who ever delivers big laughs. Bruce is a convinced conservative who made it his mission to protect his children from any harm in the world of celebrities, but as things turn out, he's always the last person to learn about Kim's or anyone else's escapades. The look on his face is quite simply priceless, and watching the man trying to keep up with four women and two teenage daughters is entertaining and funny indeed.
The DVD comes with the second season where the show jumped the shark and then backed it over. Most of the episodes were staged for the benefit of Kim's career and ass. Khloe and Kourtney got some face time, but it all was setup for the eventual troubles with the law and gossip rags. If you're looking for special features, the sole male Kardashian provides some video diaries about the production. If that's not enough, there's a handful of deleted scenes. All of them don't make any sense when taken out of context. I recommend it for a rental.
